FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do I need to be an artist/good at art?

No. You don't need to be an artist or good at art to explore art therapy.  Arts Therapy isn't about producing a finished art pieces and the art work itself, although the art may speak to the maker, but about the process.  A qualified arts therapist will guide you through this process.

What to expect in my first session?

Sessions are individual to the person attending.  We will check in and discuss anything that is present with you, address any goals that you may want to set and safety within the space. We will start with a small relaxation exercise before moving into art making side by side. The use of materials and depending on your comfort, this may be with or without a simple description.  As we make, we may talk and discuss what's happening or the process.  As we conclude, together we will reflect on the process and discuss anything that may need extra attention.

What do I need to bring?

Nothing.  All materials are supplied unless it is a zoom appointment or there is something personal you would like to incorporate.  With zoom appointments we will work with what you have available, or prior to the appointment I can send a short, low cost list or supply a small art pack (at an additional cost).

What happens with my art at the end of the session?

This is completely up to you.  You may wish to take it home to reflect on at a later stage, or you may want to throw it away which can be part of the art making process.
